This North Wales Credit Union was established in 2010 following the merger of Caledfryn, Clwyd Coast, Llandudno, Wrexham and Y Llechen Credit Unions.

In May 2015, Hafren Credit Union merged with North Wales Credit Union. The credit union was founded in April 1995 and was register at 23 Market street Newtown Powys SY16 2PD.

North Wales Credit Union AGM on 30th January 2016 approved changing the name to Cambrian Credit Union.
They have over 14,000 adult members and 1,500 junior savers. They employ over 30 members of staff and have over 150 volunteers.
