The credit union was opened for business after a period of learning and discovery of how the founders might go about delivering a service to prospective members from people residing in Kirkshanks, old Monkland, Kirkwood or Bargeddie.
From then they continue to provide the services of Savings and Loans to members. The operations and management of the credit union was carried out by volunteers from the Board of Directors,
The Common Bond was extended wider afield with membership continuing to grow. There are currently over 3500 active members and has given out over £10 million in loans over the last 20 years.
The credit union in 2013 purchased new premises and moved in that September of that year.
The credit union is very active in making contact with local schools to set up collection points within the schools so as to make it easier for pupils to save their money.
