Greater Govan Credit Union

Established in March 1997 Companies House Number 122CUS

Local residents who were concerned about the increasing number of local people experiencing financial exclusion founded Greater Govan Credit Union on the 18th March 1997. Their aim was to create a financial co-operative which would encourage saving and offer low interest loans to their members.

The operations and management of the credit union was carried out by volunteers from the Board of Directors, to whom the community owe a huge debt of gratitude.

From humble beginnings the credit union has grown and after operating from different premises over the years, the current office on 15 Burleigh Street opened for business in 2002, followed by the opening of our Shawlands Branch in 2006.

In 2008, we extended our common bond to include anyone working or living in the G post code area and in October 2009 we merged with Ruchazie, Craigend and Garthamlock Credit Union. The Ruchazie office is on 427 Gartloch Road.

With the introduction of IT and the internet the credit union is allowing the members to complete certain processes online and with the specialist security measures that are provided. Giving the same level of security as if members were standing with a cashier at the counter.
