A member of the Scottish League of Credit Unions they began as Bute Credit Union in May 1994 as an alternative personal financial service in the community under the ownership and direction of its members.
What they had created has stood the test of time and lead the Credit Union in 2013 to expand its area of membership to include the Cowal peninsula.
This Credit Union is a thriving financial organisation, run by volunteers and has over 450 active members on the Isle of Bute. A new Dunoon Office was opened in November 2015 at 29 Ferry Brae.
Members use the Credit Union to save money and benefit from a low interest rate on loans. The credit union has been working with primary schools to encourage habits of thrift and financial prudence in young people.
