The Credit Union is a local, not for profit financial institution. Established in 1981 by a group of local people as an Industrial and Provident Society Company number NO000102

The credit union opened their doors following a study group set-up earlier in the year.
The Common Bond was for those people living or working in Newtownstewart and later expanded to the wider community
As members of the Irish league of Credit Unions, they take part in some of the national events run around the country involving the Schools within their Common Bond, to participate in the annual Art Competition and credit union Schools quiz
What they had created has stood the test of time and a debt of gratitude is owed to those founder members for the benefits enjoyed today and should not be forgotten. So, if someone would like to update then please let us know.
