Enniskillen Credit Union

The credit union opened for business in September 1968 but was not registered till January 1971. Members of committees were selected and operations began in one of the director’s home.

After the first year of trading they rented premises later buying the building as the credit union office. The credit union was manned by volunteers until they employed the first employee in 1980 who eventually became the manager of the credit union for a long time. By the nineties, loans had reached £5 million and shares were at over half a million.

By the new millennium, the credit union had invested in computerisation and more staff. It was 2016 when a successful transfer of engagement took place with Kinawley Credit union and membership continued to grow. The credit union celebrated the 50th anniversary with a booklet and lots of photos over the years. You can download the full history from the website.
