The study group in 1972 gathered information and visited established credit unions and 12 months later Crossmaglen Credit Union was established in 1973.

They affiliated to the Irish League of Credit Unions. The credit union has seen many changes since the early days with the founding volunteers manning weekly the office to setting up in rented premises, hiring staff, purchasing premises and finally moving to a purpose-built office with assets changing from zero to nearly 15 million pounds!
Crossmagnlen Credit Union specialises in providing a safe place for savings and loans in the community. Crossmaglen Schools Credit Union is active in all the local primary schools on Thursdays’ during the school year. In partnership with Glencarn a local nursing home they visit resident members helping them with their financial needs. Winter Fuel Scheme offers short-term loans at only 6%Apr.
