Started as Weston Super Mare and District Credit Union Limited Registered in January 2004.
Membership began to grow and with expansion they began to trade as North Somerset Credit union and registering the name change in June 2009.
Further expansion required another name change in the January of 2013 to Somerset Savings and loans taking on the whole county.
In September 2017 they registered the trading name as Westcountry Savings and Loans spreading furthering the field of membership.
People who reside in or are employed in Somerset, North Somerset, BANES (Bath and North East Somerset) and the counties of Devon and Cornwall (including Isles of Scilly), or who meet the criteria for membership.
In June 2018 a new IT system became part of the strategy to be a modern, accessible credit union.
