The Credit Union was first opened as Earlham Credit Union Limited in July 1992 by a group of volunteers.

Freda Sheehy MBE was instrumental in setting up the Credit Union, she continued to be an active volunteer.
The credit union has grown from a collection point in a community centre back room using double-entry bookkeeping.
The operations and management of the credit union was carried out by volunteers to provide savings and loan schemes for the residents of the area.
The Common Bond in 2004 was extended wider afield to include those who live or work in the Norfolk postcode areas NR1-NR31.
This led to the Register with the FSA in February 2004 to West Norwich Credit Union Ltd.
The credit union supports a Young Savers Account and is open to anyone under the age of 18. It is free to join and they can save as little or as much as they like.
Also, there is the Funeral Cover account that lets members plan and pay for a funeral, so they leave a guaranteed legacy of at least of £4,000.
