Stockport Credit Union

Was registered on the 2^nd of July 2002 with the Company Number IP00146C The Credit Union Membership is open to anyone who lives, works or studies in Stockport (postcodes SK1 to SK8)

Since then the Credit Union has offered people a friendly way to save and borrow. They offer a service for local people and over the years have allowed local people to save and borrow at an affordable rate. 

A credit Union has been in Stockport since May 1989 known as Brinnington Credit Union Ltd. until 2005. as a community based savings and lending institution.

The principles of Co-operation and self-help, with a view to helping families and individuals in the credit union area to improve their quality of life, were the motivating factors in the setting up of the Credit Union.

Since then the Credit Union has offered people a friendly way to save and borrow. They offer a service for local people and over the years have allowed local people to save and borrow at an affordable rate.

SCU is going through an exciting period, with growth and change happening. In recent times they have developed innovative products and services, which include working with businesses in their local area to provide payroll solutions.

Stocport Credit Union Director, James McMillan, was announced as the winner of the prestigious Non-Exec Director of the Year Award 2020 (North West & Isle of Man) by the Institute of Directors. He stood out as an individual that showcases a commitment and passion for embedding excellence within their organisation. They demonstrate clear industry insight, best practice mindset, and strong commercial edge.

Following the recent and alarming announcement that The Financial Vulnerability Index (FVI) has shown that Greater Manchester residents will be on the front line of the economic squeeze. The credit Union launches a multi-pronged initiative to help with a new product called a ‘Locked Winter Fuel Saver Account’, enabling Stockport residents to make regular savings into a secure pot that can’t be accessed until at least October 2022.
