Started as Barnsley Credit Union Ltd July 2002 and open to anyone who Live or work In Barnsley Metropolitan Borough.
It started with Coalfields Grant and the Local authority did allow payroll deduction, but only in the Town Hall.
In October 2006, they were awarded the Growth Fund contract.
July 2008, they Merged with Little Dearne Credit Union with 800 active members and also in July 2008 managed Danum CU Growth Fund contract.
May 2009 the name changed to South Yorkshire Credit Union May and 2010 saw the merger with Danum Credit Union with 2000 active members eventually trading in 2012 as The Ridings Credit Union
August 2016 the credit union traded as My Money Credit Union until all came together in December 2017 as Community First Credit Union and in June 2019 began trading with the name Community First Community Bank
