Lodge Lane & District Credit Union

1989 The Registry of Friendly Societies officially registers the Lodge Lane Credit Union on the 25th of April. The Credit Union opens to members on 22nd of May. The first shop front is opened at 49 Lodge lane. 98 Members join by the end of the year and the first junior member in November 89. Delegates attend the North west Chapter of Credit Unions.

Lodge Lane Credit Union

1990 January –100th member joins. Delegates attend our first ABCUL National Conference in Glasgow. The credit Union has an unbroken record of attendance to this annual event since then.

1991February—the Credit Union moves from 49 to 81 Lodge Lane, thanks to the Children’s Society. The first dividend is paid to members. Lodge Lane Credit Union is a founder Member of the Merseyside Chapter of ABCUL.

1992In co-operation with Edge Hill and Park Road Credit Unions, Lodge lane Credit Union opened their first collection point in Nugent School.

1993 First primary school collection in Granby School began. The Credit Union purchased its first computer thanks to a grant from Granby Toxteth Task Force. The first membership and accounts system is CUMAS-Dos based matrix printer!

1994 The credit Union welcomes the 500thmember in March.

1995 A donation from News International Employees Credit Union pays the printing cost of the first calendar of children’s pictures.

1996 The Children’s Society appoint Lucy O’Connor as a Development Worker to help build up membership among local children.1998 The credit Union reaches 1000th Member in August.

1999 Christian Aid Help the Credit Union to set up a Millennium ”On The Link” link with Wa Credit Union in Ghana http://www.cuagh.com/press/news

2000 Peter Der President of Wa Credit Union and chairperson of the Ghanaian national association of Credit Unions visits the Credit Union-thanks to a Millennium Award grant and the members of Lodge Lane’s generous donations towards his fares. Victoria O’Connor makes a reciprocal visit to Wa with Christian staff and a Granada film crew. Assets reach ¼ million-mainly members savings.

2002 the Credit Union changes to CU-BIS our first windows based system-and a laser printer.

2003 Brainy members win the Royal Ruffley memorial Trophy at the Mersey Chapter International Credit Union Day quiz.

2005 The 1500th Member joins in June

2006 DWP award Growth Fund contract in July and the first full time employee is appointed, Thea, in September. Assets reach ½ million.

2007 Again the Rory Ruffley Memorial Trophy comes to Lodge lane again –thanks to the vast general knowledge of some of our younger volunteers.

2008 Decembers sees the 2000th member. The second year running the Rory Ruffley memorial trophy is won.  With the help of Growth fund assets reach 3/4million. 81 Lodge Lane is refurbished with help from Growth fund Liverpool Housing Trust and Riverside Housing Association. The new computer system gives the potential to accept members benefits and tax credits and to offer ATM and payment cards. Community artist Amanda Earley completed the Capital of Culture project from a design compiled by Members

2009 Lodge Lane Credit Union wins ”Making Difference” Award recognising the contribution to the Lodge Lane Renewal Area and is the overall Champion Award for Making a Difference across the city. The credit Union becomes 20 years old.

2004 The Credit Union buys the Freehold of 81 Lodge Lane from the Children’s Society.

2010 Lodge Lane and Earle Lawrence Credit Union merge.

2011 open new branch at 46 Lawrence road assets grow to over £1,000,000

2012 Paid staff increased to 5. Accounts assistant was also the first young member in 1989. The first corporate member joins and first business loan issued.

2013 Opened outreach collection point at St Hugh’s school for parents and children. Opened outreach collection point at St Barnabas Church-at last Penny Lane has a Credit Union

2014 The credit Union celebrates its 25th Birthday.

2015 Assets grow to over 2,000,000 Future plans are collection point at Kingsley Road school and Granby Children’s Centre starting in September 2015..Begin payroll deduction for Liverpool Diocese staff. Upgrade  computer system.
