Formally trading as Basildon Council Employees Credit Union Limited. From 1987 and launched in June 2008 by MP Angela Smith of the co-op party. The common bond being changed for those people residing or being employed within the Basildon district.

In 2012 they awarded £70k with the consortium of Credit Unions Together (CUT) that includes Colchester, Harlow and Holdfast Credit unions receiving the grant from Essex County Council.
As a result of this grant, Basildon Credit Union has introduced a range of offers for families. The offers were only available for a short period and were limited to the first 30 adults and first 60 children who applied. Member ship is approximately 450.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) in 2020
In light of the ongoing situation with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) the offices of Basildon Credit Union has been temporarily closed. This decision has been taken to limit the potential impact which this virus may have in the local community and to protect our members of staff. It is understood that this may cause some inconvenience, and would like to reassure all members that staff are still here to help and can still access the services by calling or emailing during office opening hours.
A Business continuity plan has been into place and staff will try their best to keep all services running as normal, there may be some avoidable delays if staff are unable to attend work. We apologise for any inconvenience that this causes.Staff will continue to monitor the situation and update members if there are any significant changes.
