Advance Credit Union is a community-based credit union, serving the region of North Birmingham and Solihull.
The credit union was founded in 1989 as the Erdington and District Credit Union Ltd. In 2004, they became the North Birmingham Community Credit Union Ltd (NBCCU), merging credit unions in Erdington, Sutton Coldfield, Castle Vale and Kingstanding, before incorporating Saltley District in 2007.
April 2013 saw the name changed to Advance Credit Union Ltd to better reflect the growth and outlook of the credit union. Membership continued to grow, reaching over 4,000 adults and 400 juniors. In the last decade, assets have grown in excess of £1.8 million with more than £2m lent each year. The head office is based in Erdington, with community-based collection points throughout the region operated by volunteers and partner organisations.
The Credit Union was delighted to share a record-breaking 2021 at its Annual General meeting in March 2022 welcoming over 500 new members, an increase of savings of 9% and providing over 3,000 affordable loans to its membership of 5,400.
